Stories

Amanda Scott - Grenada

I was able to honorably represent my country as the female delegate to the Commonwealth Youth Council, CHOGM (Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting) in Malta 2015. â€‹

The commonwealth has also done so much for me. It has connected me to cross-cultural borders and some very inspiring young leaders. The Commonwealth has provided a platform for young people to address, seek and provide solutions for youth-related and global affairs and towering opportunities for capacity building.

Trevis Belle - St. Kitts and Nevis

As a 19-year-old 2016 Queen's Young Leader, I have a drive for youth and development, while still being able to enjoy myself through playing the saxophone, hanging out with peers and traveling.

In January  2014, I founded MADE St. Kitts - an NGO that focuses on raising awareness about the importance of volunteerism for young people. Music has allowed me to draw inspiration, especially with soca with Destra, Machel, and KES being my favourite artists.

I will be starting my undergraduate studies in Communications in the Fall of 2016! I believe that  every young person has a story and it deserves to be told.

Aden Hamza - Canada

I had the privilege of  being selected as the National Youth Delegate for Canada to the Commonwealth Youth Forum in Malta this past Novemmer. Prior to this, I didnt recognize or understand who the Commonwealth was or what it had to offer. After attending the Forum , I realized that the Commonwealth was thriving with young leaders working on great grass-roots initiatives, and that we were all connected through common priniciples. It was an eye-openinging experience and gave me the opportunity to learn , share and develop solutions to global problems with like-minded peers. I can now say I am connected to youth across 5 continents and friends to last a lifetime! There is so much potential and opportunity for youth to develop the Commonwealth and I am excited to be apart of it!

Dillon Ollivierre - St. Vincent & The Grenadine

Being a part of the Commonwealth has allowed me to become a Queens Young Leader. This oppurtunity has exposed me to the commonwelath charter and the sustainable development goals. It has made me aware of the many struggles my brothers and sisters face but also of the many oppurtunites to educate, develop and strengthen the leadership qualities of our youth.

Young people from different countries have connected and created bonds. They have collaberated and have pledged their commitment to ensuring the commonwealth charter is followed and SDG are met.

Being apart of the Commonwealth means that I beling ti and am working with a family who is passionate about life and are therefore committed to solving the many problems which affects our exsistance.

Josh Mazur - Canada

As a graduate of the University of Ottawa and one of two National Youth Delegates from Canada, I became interested in international politics in high school while attending the National Student Commonwealth Forum (NSCF). Majoring in conflict studies and human rights and minoring in law, I continued my involvement with the NSCF throughout my university career, going on to co-chair the forum. This opportunity allowed me to expand my understanding of this unique international institution. I am now a Director with RCS Canada and have had the privilege of representing Canadian youth in Malta, designing youth-led policy to prevent violent radicalization.
